First record of date Palm rachis blight caused by Serenomyces phoenicis(Rolland)E.Mull.S.Ahmad

This study has been performed at Date palm Research center , Basra university to identify the symptoms pathogen of date palm which appeared as black or brown pustules on the old leaves of date palm at different Orchards in Abu-Alkaseb qutha
Results of isolation experiment showed that the fungus Serenomyces phoenicis was isolated from infected date palm leaves results , also succeeded to grow the fungus on the solid media PDA , and a pure colony was obtained isolation .
Pathogenicity tests proved the ability of the fungus
Serenomyces phoenicis to induce the typical symptoms of diseases on inoculated date palm leaves , the symptoms were pure pustules on the frond .

Extraction of phenolic compounds from wheat bran and its assessment as antioxidants

Phenolic compounds were extracted by distilled water , chloroform , ethanol , methanol ,propanol and ethyl acetate from wheat bran and determined by Folin-Ciocateau method.The antioxidative activity of the extracted compounds towards linoleic acid oxidation were determined. The extracts of distilled water and chloroform were fractionated by Dialysis and its antioxidative activity were determined. Influence of temperature and chemical treatments on stability of antioxidative phenolic compounds to both extracts were studied.The ability of both extracts to scavenging of free radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were studied. The ability of chloroform extract on oxidation retardation of fish (subor)oil was determined.The extracts of distilled water and chloroform showed maximum concentration of phenolic compounds and highest antioxidative activity . Fractionation by Dialysis showed that extracts of distilled water and chloroform compounds with high molecular weight were mainly accounted for antioxidative activity . Stability of chloroform extract was higher than distilled water extract toward temperature and chemical treatments . Maximum scavenging of free radical activity of both extracts were at 100 mg/ml, however activity was the highest for the chloroform extract. Scavenging activity was being increased with time and concentrations . Inhibitory effect of chloroform extract to retard fish oil oxidation was increased with concentrations. The concentrations of 8 and 10 mg/g oil showed the highest antioxidative activity at 50 days period from storage.

Eeffect of NaCl and a mixture of (NaCl + CaCl2) on fresh weight, mineral content and prolin accumulation in the callus of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) c.v. Barhi cultured in vitro .

Laboratory experiments were conducted to study the effect of different concentrations of NaCl solution (0 , 1 , 2 , 3 )% and mixture of NaCl with previous concentrations with two concentrations of CaCl2 ( 0.5 , 1)% on fresh weight, callus content of sodium , potassium , calcium ions and the amino acid (proline) .Explants used was shoot tip of date palm cv. (Barhi) cultured in vitro using “MS” medium with some additives and using NAA(naphthaleneacetic acid) and 2iP(2-isopentenyl-adenine) growth regulators for callus induction and multiplication .Results showed that increasing NaCl concentration Caused a decrease in fresh weight, calcium and potassium concentration In the primary callus whearase it cause an increase in sodium and proline cotent .Results showed also that addition of CaCl2 cause a significant increase in fresh weight a compaind with increasing concentrations of potassium, calcium and cause decreasing concentration of sodium and proline in the primary callus .

A Histological study of the effect of Nandrolone decanoat on testes of F. gigantica infected rabbits treated and not treated with Rafoxanide

This research include the study of the histological effect of Nandrolone decanoat on the testes of rabbits experimentally infected with Fasciola gigantica treated and untreated with Rafoxanide. The research include , uninfected animals treated with Nandrolone decanoat , infected animals treated with Nandrolone decanoat , infected and untreated animals , infected animals treated with both Nandrolone decanoat and Rafoxanide , uninfected and untreated animals as a control group . The results showed sever histological changes in the testes of uninfected and infected animals treated with Nandrolone decanoat only , this include the disappearing of spermatogenesis stages and damage of the epithelial layer surrounding the seminiferous tubules , this changes was less in the testes of infected untreated animals , while the testes of infected animals treated with both Nandrolone decanoat and Rafoxanide showed obvious cure represented by the appearance of all spermatogenesis stages from spermtogonia to spermatozoa .

Preparation of Powder date syrup from zahdi cultivar and study their quality properties

The aim of this study preparation of powder date syrup from zahdi cultivar after dehydration ,adding anti-caking agents and study their quality properties .The results of chemical analysis showed the powder had highest content of total soluble solids , total sugar and reducing sugar which reached (92.12,83.30.81 )% as dry basis respectively and a lower moisture content (7.20)% .Results of ash , sucrose, pH, color which reached (3.40%,2.30%,4.60,0.570) respectively and this study included the effect of storage stability at 5 Co and 25 Co for 6 months on some chemical properties . The results showed that total sugar and pH was decreased to (82.18%,4.40) after storage at 5 Co while decreased to 81.22%,4.35 respectively after storage at 25 Co . The moisture content and color was increased after storage 6 months were reached (7.92 %, 0.645) after storage at 5 Co while reached (7.90%,0.679)after storage at 25 Co .

Study of Antibacterial Activity of Aminoglycosidic Antibiotic Isolated From Local Strain Streptomyces sp. 1

n aminoglycosidic antibiotic active against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, was isolated from the local strain Streptomyces sp. 1 isolated from soil of southern Iraq.
The antibiotic was isolated as white powder with maximum yield equal to 3 gm /l at (28-30) oC. The physical and chemical properties were studied using thin layer chromatography (TLC) , IR Spectrum, UV-spectrum, melting point, solubility in organic and inorganic solvents and qualitative testes of extracted antibiotic.
The antimicrobial activity of the extracted aminoglycosidic antibiotic was determined against types of standard strains of bacteria which are Staphylococcus aureus NCTC 6571 and Escherichia coli NCTC 5933. The results indicated that the isolated aminoglycosidic antibiotic has varying degrees of inhibiting the test organisms.
The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) of the aminoglycoside antibiotic was estimated by using filter disk assay against types of gram positive and gram negative bacteria. The (MIC ) of the aminoglycoside antibiotic against gram positive bacteria was
( 0.75 µg/ml. ) and was ( 7.0 µg/ml. ) against gram negative bacteria.
