Effect of storage period and temperature on physicochemical properties of refining wheat germ oil

The study includes extraction of oil from wheat germ using organic solvent ,chloroform–methanol and water(1:1:0.5) and study the physicochemical properties of refined oil . Wheat germ oil storage at 4°C for 35 days showed slight effects on physicochemical properties of refined oil. The results were as follows :
viscosity, acid value, peroxide value and saponification number increase from 29.57cent pois to29.59 cent pois,0.22 mg/g to 0.26 mg/g, 0.89 millequiv./ Kg oil to 0.91 millequiv./Kg oil and 179.52 mg/g to 179.56 mg/g oil respectively. While color intensity, Specific gravity and iodine value decrease from, 0.9288 to 0.9286, 126 to 125 mg/100g oil respectively.
Wheat germ oil storage at 25-30 °C for 35 days showed more effects on physicochemical properties of refined oil. The results were as follows : viscosity, acid value, peroxide value and saponification number were raised from 29.57cent pois to30.55 cent pois,0.22 mg/g to3 mg/g, 0.89 millequiv./ Kg oil to 4.69 millequiv./ Kg oil and 179.52mg/g to 195 mg/g oil respectively. While color intensity, Specific gravity and iodine value decrease from0.098 to 0.085, 0.9288ml/g to 0.9012, 126 to 115 mg/100g oil respectively.

Isolate and Idenification of Salmonallatyphimiurium from Cattle and Determination of Significant Titer

This study was carried out in cattle in north of Basrah and concerning the isolation and identification of Salmonella typhimurium and determination of susceptibility of antibiotic and titration of anti-salmonella antibodies for both somatic OAg and flagellar Hag antigens, this study included 100 fecal samples and blood samples from cattle which were suffering from sever diarrhea and emaciation. The results showed that the percentage of Salmonella isolation from fecal samples was 5% while the percentage of seropositive anti-salmonella antibodies was 70%. The percentage of positive results to somatic antigen was 78.5% and that for flagellar antigen was 31.7%, However it was clear from these results that the titer 1:160 for somatic antigen is considered as diagnostic for bovine Salmonellatyphimurium and finally it was clear from these results. That the tube agglutination test confirms the results obtained by slide agglutination test.

An Assessment of Noise Pollution and Associated Health Impacts atSelected Schools in Basra City, Southern Iraq

This study represent an assessment on the levels of noise pollution and its health impacts at selected schools in Basra City, Southern Iraq. Noise levels were measured during 2012 with calibrated sound level meter, Lutron SL-4013 Model, at classrooms, playgrounds, and surroundings of a 12 selected schools. As well, it was randomly distributed 240 questionnaires, 25 per school, on a sample of students and teaching staff, assessing the environmental noise impacts on their health and learning-related outcomes. The present study concluded that the measured levels of noise, whether at indoor or outdoor of the surveyed schools, were higher than the WHO recommended levels, and that majority of respondents reported a variety of medical disorders, such as stress, lack of concentration, headache, annoyance, and even loss of hearing. This may be due to the effects of environmental noise emitted from sources like vehicular traffic, industrial workshops, and the most important is student louds inside the selected schools. This study recommended that more rigorous researches should be carried out, to improve the health of learning environments.

The study was conducted at the technical lab of tissue culture which belongs to the private sector at Shatt Al Arab, Al- Fayhaa from March 2011 to April 2013. The stusy aimed to examine the effect of irrigating date palm plantlets cv. Barhee by NPK and Hogland solutions,the plantlets resulting from culturing the shoot tips of 2-3 years offshoots were used¦ . When the somatic embryos were developed, they were germinated on the medium consist of MS salts and supplemented by 0.5 mg.L-¹ NAA and BA which resulted in developing the plantlets. when the latter more 10-12 cm hight, At the time when the plantlets became 10-12 cms high, they were put into investigation. The results can be summarized as follows:

Study the effect of adding oyster shells powder extracted from the Caspian Sea on the Mechanical Properties of Low Density of Polyethylene (LDPE).

The Study of the Effect of from the Caspian Sea on the of low density polyethylene (LDPE), which is manufactured in the General state company of petrochemical industries, Basra, as function of the percentages of oysters extracted from the Caspian Sea in Iran (2.5%,5%,10%, 15%, 20% ), at particular size. ( 250 m) were investigated through several variables, such as, Young's modules, strength, and elongation. The obtained results were appeared that the added oyster act to reduce the spaces between the polymer chains, which reflects the high ability of the polymer against the applied stress, and a high degree of homogeneity between the host polymer and the added fillers, and this increase will give further property that increase the hardness of the prepared specimens, the results lead to that the strength at both break will be affected little till the percentage (2.5%), and lowered after that with increasing the percentage also indicate an lowered in young's modules at the percentage (10%), which reflects the increase in the ductile of the polymer grafted with eggshells and wide range of the application for this polymer. The results also appear that the highest point of the stress is (10.15 N/mm2 ). The proportional limit was 143 N for 5%.

Preparation of copolymer (Poly aniline, ally alcohol) by chemical method and studying its adhesion properties on different substrates.

The study consists of the synthesis of copolymer poly (Aniline – Co – Ally Alcohol) by chemical polymerization. Polymer films analysis have been prepared by infrared (FT-IR )
Test force Adhesion for prepared Polymer films showed with different materials like(St, Cu, Al and glass). these test force Adhesion studied according to (volumetric fractions of polymer, type of material, kind of solvent, temperature, surface area of material and thickness of polymer film).
Graphically, It has been observed that the best polymer film which has high Adhesion nature with different materials, when it dissolved in formic acid and deposite it on pure steel for both pure and dopped polymers. Also it has been noticed the force adhesion of the polymer increased with increasing of volumetric ratio of Ally Alcohol . Experimentally ,it has been found that the force Adhesion of polymer film on different kind of materials is increased by increasing temperature and the surface area of the materials ,but it is decreased by increasing thickness of polymer film for both pure and dopped polymer

Effect of Biozyme TF on growth and yield of two cultivars of Cabbage cultured in desert regions south of Iraq.

The experiment was conducted during winter season of 2012-2013 at the desert farm in Zubair-Basrah to study the effect of algae extract (Biozyme TF) on growth and yield of two cultivars of cabbage. Experiment included factorial treatment resulted from interaction between cultivars (Marcello and Lucky Ball) and four treatments of applying algae extract (0,2,3,4) times of irrigation. The experiments was in split plot design with three replicates in randomized complete design. Means were compared by Duncan multiple range test at 0.05 level. Results showed Lucky Ball cultivar was superior in leave area, head weight, head diameter and total yield compared to Marcello cultivar. Treatment of irrigation by algae extract(Biozyme TF) on all studied characteristics significant effect on all studied characteristics particularly, three times irrigation which caused significant increase in plant height, number of curled leaves, fresh and dry weight of roots, width and leaf area, total plant weight, weight and diameter of curled head and total yield compared with control treatment. The interaction between the two factors was significant in most studied characteristics. Plants of Lucky Ball cultivar which irrigated three times by algae extract gave highest total plant weight (2.727 kg), weight of curled leaves (2.124 kg), diameter of curled head (18.7 cm) and total yield (23.997 tons/donum).

Preparation of activated carbon by chemical activation with phosphoric acid using Cordia myxa fruits nuclei as raw material

The research work involves preparation and study of the adsorption characteristics of activated carbon to remove dyes from aqueous solutions .Cordia myxa fruitsnuclei were processed chemically using Phosphoric acid as chemical activator.The parameters (such as initial pH, contact time,..etc) affecting the adsorption capacity of activated carbon toward dyes removal from aqueous solutions were investigated .

Evaluating the Performance of Silica Gel Material Used Power Stations

Silica Gel is used in many technical and commercial applications due to characterized by high affinity for absorbing gases and water vapor. It used in industrial equipment, operating units and oil refineries as absorbent material and as a catalyst for chemical reactions due to adding the acidic qualities to the crystal structure consisting of large molecules with large surface areas and low density.
In this research, the study of the efficiency of Silica Gel material used in high conversion adapters for electrical power distribution networks are used as absorbent material to water vapor generated during the operation of the equipment or wet weather with high relative humidity.
The results showed that the efficiency of absorption material Silica Gel is decreased during frequent use in transformers secondary as the re-dried after saturation moisture for use again in adapters conversion secondary lead to lack of usability on the absorption and it put the appropriate solutions to re-use this material efficiently so as to avoid technical problems secondary transformers due to increased humidity inside the converte, leading to major damage and the stoppage of work.

Radon Gas Exhalation from Living Pieces Available in Basrah Governorate

In this work we measured radon gas exhalation from radium elements participated in parts of living pieces which connect to the human living. Samples from human teeth, animal bones and fishes were collected depending on the criteria that radioactive materials always concentrated on bones. The SSNTDs detectors and RAD7 instruments were used in the measurements of radon gas concentration. It is found that sheep bones contains maximum radon concentration 3407±43 Bq/m3 in SSNTDs and 993±117 in RAD7 detectors measurement. Maximum thorton concentration was 753±47 Bq/m3 for the same sample and minimum radon concentration was 168±11 Bq/m3

Islation and Purfication and diagnosis of compound Aleugnol from volatile oil of Cloves plant Syzygiumaromaticum and study its antibacterial activity.

The current study included volatile oil extraction from the cloves plant Sayzygium aromaticum isolate and purify the diagnosis composite Aleugenol Eugenol, Using some chemical spectral techniques such as Thine Layare Chromatography(TLC),Infra-Red spctrum (IR), Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(H1NMR) and Gas Chromatography Mass (GCMass) evaluated the antibacterial activity against six bacterial species (E.coli (ATCC25922), Staphylococcus aureus(ATCC),Psedomonas aeurginosa,Salmonella typhi.Acinetobacter sp, Proteus mirabilis),which showed the antibacterial activity of the against bacterial high and inhibion of different diameters ranged between (41.6-34.6 mm).The current study also included identifying Minimum Inhibition Concentration(MIC) to Eugenol compound,Wher was less minimum inhibitory concentration is (1.6 µgml) against S. aureus (ATTC), While the highest Minimum Inhibition Concentration(MIC) is (6.5 µgml) towards both bacterial species P.aeurginosa,S.typhi,P.mirabilis .It also tested the cellular toxocity of the compound ,Whichdid not show any toxic at theconcentrations tested.
